Fatal Pedestrian Motor Vehicle Accident Investigation
Rochester, NY — The Rochester Police Department Major Crimes Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian that occurred on the eveningof Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
At approximately 8:00 p.m., a vehicle was traveling northbound in the 1300 block of Lake Avenue when it struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a male in his 40s, was attempting to cross the street from east to west and was not within a designated crosswalk at the time of the collision. The driver reported not seeing the pedestrian crossing in the middle of the roadway.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but unfortunately, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are currently working to confirm the victim's identity and notify his next of kin.
The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and is fully cooperating with investigators. At this time, alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be contributing factors to the crash, and no criminal charges have been filed.
Detectives are actively canvassing the neighborhood to retrieve video surveillance footage from nearby businesses and residences. The Major Crimes Homicide Unit urges anyone who witnessed the accident, has relevant dashcam or security footage, or possesses any information regarding the incident to contact authorities immediately:
