Downtown Restaurant Burglary Arrest

Rochester, NY - Over the past several weeks, the Rochester Police Department has been investigating multiple burglaries and thefts from cafes and restaurant type locations downtown. Yesterday morning, around 1am, Officers responded to the Protein Pit Stop, 1 W. Main Street, after being flagged down by a motorist reporting a broken window. Officers flooded the area while reviewing Blue Light Camera footage and nearby surveillance footage.
Around 6:15am, Officers located the suspect, 58-year old William Arroyo, in the 500 block of State Street and safely took him into custody. During the arrest, Officers recovered property that had been stolen from the Protein Pit.
Additionally, on October 6, around 7pm, Officers responded to the 100 block of East Avenue for the report of a stolen vehicle. Officers learned that the victim left his car running while making a food delivery and the suspect stole it. Later that night, around 2am, Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop the vehicle and the suspect ran in the area of Maple St and Child St. Although the suspect was not located, a cash register and other stolen property was located during the investigation. That suspect, was ultimately determined to be Arroyo.
Arroyo was transported to the Monroe County Jail, where he is being held without bail following his arraignment in CAP Court. It should be noted that Arroyo is currently on Parole for Burglary stemming from his arrest in 2019 for multiple downtown area burglaries.
There are approximately ten locations downtown that have recently been burglarized with a similar M.O. Detectives are continuing to investigate these incidents and any potential connection to Arroyo.
William Arroyo, age 58, is charged with Burglary in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree, and Petit Larceny for his actions yesterday morning. He is also charged with Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree relative to the stolen vehicle.
