Black Lives Matter Grassroots Marks 11th Anniversary with 2023 Action Report
Black Lives Matter Grassroots (BLMGR), Wednesday, released their 2023 Action Report, highlighting the work of their nationwide chapters. The report comes as the organization celebrates their 11th anniversary.
“We are proud to say that the action report was a labor of love, involving contributions from chapters across the country, BLM grassroots staff, and key stakeholders throughout the organization,” noted Dr. Melinda Abdullah, Co-founder and Director of BLMGR.
The report, broken into seven key sections, centered around “core interorganizational functions.” Organizers say their goal with the report is to provide both internal and external partners with clear information about the breadth and depth of their work and help to educate and inspire future endeavors.
The seven sections are:
Area 1: Action
Area 2: Education
Area 3: Communications
Area 4: Development
Area 5: Public Policy
Area 6: Direct Support
Area 7: Abolition
"This year’s Action Report highlights just some of the powerful work moving through Black Lives Matter Grassroots chapters and organizers around the nation. Even as cameras turn away, resources diminish, and public attention is diverted, the work—seen and unseen—continues to move," Abdullah, said.
Black Lives Matter Grassroots is the original formation of Black Lives Matter, birthed July 13, 2013. According to their website, the organization is comprised of 39 chapters on-the-ground committed to ending state-sanctioned violence against Black people. The mission of Black Lives Matter Grassroots is to support, sustain, empower, and uplift the necessary agitations, mobilizations, organizing, education, expressions, initiatives, and advocacy of Black Lives Matter chapters, partnering organizations, groups, and people in order to fulfill our sacred duty to advance Black liberation.
