ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man from Waterloo is facing multiple charges after a police chase that spanned 13 miles across Monroe County on Wednesday night, ending at Roberts Wesleyan University. Rochester Police say the chase started when the suspected driver took off during a traffic stop, hitting an officer. Dejon Butler, 26, is charged with reckless endangerment, obstructing governmental administration, fleeing an officer, and reckless driving. He was also given multiple traffic tickets.
The chase started on North Clinton Avenue on the city’s northeast side around 8 p.m. RPD chased the car until it got to I-490. That’s when New York State Police took over with a helicopter. Monroe County sheriff’s deputies and Ogden Police also joined.
Police eventually used spike strips on Buffalo Road near Fairbanks Road in the Town of Riga. News10NBC’s photojournalist saw the car, with a damaged front, come to a stop in a field near a parking lot at Roberts Wesleyan. That’s where police put the man in handcuffs.
The officer who was hit wasn’t injured. Butler was taken to the Monroe County Jail and is due to be arraigned on Thursday.
