Owen Street Gun Arrest

Rochester, NY - Yesterday, around 8am, Officers responded to an address on Owen Street for the report of a domestic incident in which 47-year old Sherod Smith allegedly choked and hit a domestic partner. Just before 1pm, the Rochester Police Department’s Tactical Unit was conducting a STRIVE detail (Statewide Targeted Reductions in Intimate Partner Violence) and located Smith in the driveway of a nearby house. Upon the Officers approaching Smith, he quickly threw a handgun over a fence. Officers safely took him into custody and recovered a loaded SCCY 9mm handgun. Smith was transported to the Monroe County Jail and charged as follows:

Sherod Smith, age 47, is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, and Harassment in the 2nd Degree.
