Silver Street Gun Arrest

Rochester, NY - On November 20, around 5pm, Officers responded to Eddy Street for the report of a male shot. Upon arrival, the located 36-year old Tamar Shipman suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the lower body. At the time of the incident, Shipman stated that he was the victim of a robbery on Silver Street. Shipman was transported to Strong Hospital for treatment, for which he eventually fled.


During the preliminary investigation, Officers located a shed on Silver Street, which appeared to have been tampered with. Inside of the shed was a Smith & Wesson handgun that was loaded with seven rounds and had a spent casing in the chamber. As a result of the investigation by Detectives from the Non-Fatal Shooting Unit, it was found that Shipman had been in possession of this handgun.


Yesterday, Officers received information that Shipman was at a hotel on Commons Way in the Town of Henrietta. Members of the Rochester Police Department, New York State Parole, and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office located Shipman in a hotel room and safely took him into custody.


Tamar Shipman, age 36, is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd and 3rd Degree. Additionally, he was served with a Parole Violation Warrant. He is currently on Parole for a 2019 conviction for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree.


Shipman was arraigned in Rochester City Court and is currently being held without bail in the Monroe County Jail.
