Rochester, NY - Yesterday afternoon, Officers from the Rochester Police Department and the United States Marshal’s Violent Fugitive Task Force conducted a joint detail in order to locate wanted offenders Steven Johnson and Moses Miranda.

Around 7:30pm, Task Force Officers located them in the 300 block of Avenue B and members of the Rochester Police Department’s Tactical Unit attempted to stop them. Johnson and Moses Miranda attempted to flee on a motorized scooter but fell. The scooter was later found to have been previously stolen during a robbery. Moses Miranda was quickly taken into custody and a loaded .380 caliber Sig Sauer handgun was recovered from him. Johnson ran from Officers/Task Force members and was safely taken into custody in a nearby yard. While running, he discarded a loaded 9mm “ghost gun”. A third suspect, Sergio Miranda was also detained and found to have a loaded 9mm caliber Glock handgun in his possession.

All three suspected were transported to the Monroe County Jail and charged with the following:

Steven Johnson, age 18, is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th Degree. He was also charged with an outstanding juvenile crime.

Moses Miranda, age 18, is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th Degree. He was also charged with outstanding Petit Larceny and Menacing 2nd cases.

Sergio Miranda, age 24, is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd and 3rd Degree. The Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree charge is based upon Miranda possessing a firearm while having a previous criminal conviction. In this case, Miranda is on Probation relative to a 2024 conviction for Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree.
