A Rochester woman has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of her 16-year-old son, authorities said Tuesday.

Police say the incident unfolded on the morning of Oct. 10 on Breck Street on Rochester’s east side after an argument between 38-year-old Aneka Connor and her son, Ca’hry Gibson, over a cellphone.
According to Rochester Police Department reports, Gibson ran out of the house and climbed onto the hood of his mother’s vehicle as she attempted to back out of a driveway. Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators shows the vehicle accelerating forward with Gibson on the hood before he fell onto the pavement.
Paramedics found the teen unconscious and rushed him to Strong Memorial Hospital. He remained hospitalized for weeks before his father, Christopher Gibson, made the difficult decision to remove him from life-support.
Following Gibson’s death, the case was presented to a Monroe County grand jury. On Dec. 23, a sealed indictment was issued for Connor, who was arrested this week and remanded to the Monroe County Jail on a $35,000 cash bail.
She faces multiple charges, including:
Manslaughter
Reckless endangerment
Endangering the welfare of a child
Connor is expected to appear in court in January.
The case has drawn community attention as relatives and friends mourn the loss of the teenager, who was described as a sophomore at Edison Tech and known for his love of basketball and fishing. His family has also highlighted his decision to become an organ donor, a choice they say provided meaning amid the tragedy.
Investigators say the circumstances leading up to the fatal injuries remain under review.
Ca'hry's father has vowed to pursue justice in the case.
