Rochester, NY - Last night, around 10:15pm, Officers stepped out with a group near corner of Jay Street and Reis Street. The group were loitering around a 2019 Honda while gambling and consuming alcohol in public. As Officers approached, 19-year old Lavone Peak discarded a handgun underneath the car and began running. Officers chased Peak and safely took him into custody in a nearby backyard. Under the vehicle, Officers recovered a 9mm Glock handgun, which was loaded with 29 rounds and was fitted with a device making it capable of firing in a fully automatic mode.
Around the same time as Peak running, Officers attempted to speak with 26-year old Terrance Prather. He also ran, during which time he allegedly discarded a 9mm Glock handgun, loaded with 16 rounds. Officer safely took him into custody in a nearby yard.
The preliminary investigation led back to the vehicle and 19-year old Quintin Mitchell, who was sitting in the back seat. Mitchell refused multiple directions to exit the vehicle and was eventually removed by Officers, during which time a .40 caliber handgun, loaded with 13 rounds, equipped with a switch to make if fire fully automatically, and had been reported stolen about 15 years ago in Florida.
None of the three suspects are legally able to possess and handgun in New York State and were transported to the Monroe County Jail.
Lavone Peak, age 19, is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Rapid Fire Modification Device, Loitering, and Possession of Alcohol in Public. He was arraigned in Rochester City Court and released with non monetary conditions.
Terrance Prather Jr, age 26, is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, Loitering, and Possession of Alcohol in Public. He was arraigned in Rochester City Court and is currently being held on $5,000 cash bail or $15,000 bond.
