The City of Rochester’s Water Bureau will hold a public meeting on Thursday, November 13, at 5:30 p.m. at Lake Riley Lodge, 100 Norris Drive, to discuss updates to the Reservoir LT2 Compliance Project. The project is designed to bring the city’s water storage facilities into compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule (LT2), which requires that open, finished water reservoirs be either covered or equipped with additional treatment systems to prevent contamination.
Originally launched in 2024 to address federal requirements for Highland Reservoir, the project has since expanded to include an evaluation of Cobbs Hill Reservoir. Both reservoirs play essential roles in Rochester’s water distribution network by maintaining water pressure and ensuring a steady supply across the system.
The upcoming meeting will outline the expanded scope of the project and present potential solutions for meeting LT2 standards at each reservoir. Members of the project team will deliver a presentation followed by a question-and-answer session.
City officials are encouraging residents to attend the meeting to learn more about how federal water quality regulations affect Rochester’s reservoirs and to provide input on the proposed plans to ensure compliance while maintaining the integrity of the city’s drinking water system.
