Murder Arrest

Rochester, NY - On August 30, 2026, at approximately 2:15 p.m., 64-year-old Ronald Leonard Jr. was shot and killed in a yard near 371 Hague St.

During the course of the investigation, Major Crimes Homicide Detectives determined that 33-year-old Troy Dukes Jr. had been tracking Leonard as he walked along Hague St. When Leonard reached the area of 371 Hague St., Dukes ran toward him and immediately opened fire, striking Leonard multiple times.

Dukes and Leonard were known to each other and had a previous altercation.

As part of the ongoing murder investigation, members of the Special Investigations Section executed multiple search warrants at locations on Hague St. associated with Dukes. During the searches, investigators seized more than 100 individual packets of fentanyl, 36 individual packets of cocaine, all packaged for street sale, as well as more than $3,000 in cash.

Although arrests were made in connection with the drug seizure, Dukes was not located at that time and was not charged in connection with the drugs recovered.

Earlier today, members of the Tactical Unit and SWAT team located Dukes on Dr. Samuel McCree Way near Genesee St. He was taken into custody without incident.

Dukes has been charged with:

• Murder in the 2nd Degree

• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree

• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree

Dukes is prohibited from legally possessing a handgun in New York State due to a prior felony drug conviction.

It is anticipated Dukes will be arraigned on the aforementioned charges in Rochester City Court on 9/25/26 at 9:30 am.
