City Announces New Ways to Watch “City Mark: A Rochester Icon”
The City of Rochester’s celebration of its iconic logo continues this weekend with several opportunities for the community to view the documentary film “City Mark: A Rochester Icon.”
The film airs tonight at 8:30 p.m. on WXXI TV 21 and HDTV 21.1, with encore broadcasts scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, at 3:30 p.m. and Monday, Sept. 28, at 9 p.m.
On Friday, Sept. 25, the public can enjoy a free outdoor screening of the documentary at 7 p.m. at Parcel 5, as part of Downtown Definitely Event’s Movies with a Downtown View series.
“As summer winds down, families have two great ways to experience this uniquely Rochester story—at home on TV or together on the big screen downtown,” said Mayor Malik D. Evans. “The City is proud to continue celebrating the 50th anniversary of the City Mark by sharing the story behind a symbol that has brought Rochesterians together for generations.”

Monday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. during ROC Startup Week at the Sibley Building's Focus Theatre
Monday, Nov. 30 at 4 p.m. at Pittsford Community Library
The 70-minute film chronicles the history of Rochester’s City Mark, from its creation in 1976 to the present day, and highlights the events, people, and creative process that shaped an iconic logo that is now synonymous with Rochester. The documentary features Lee Green, the City’s first graphic designer and creator of the mark; Rochester Institute of Technology leaders who helped plan the 1974 Design for a Greater Rochester symposium that inspired the logo’s creation; and local entrepreneurs and artists who continue to incorporate the City Mark into their work.
“City Mark: A Rochester Icon” is part of the City’s yearlong celebration of the City Mark’s 50th anniversary.
