The body of missing Rochester woman Carolyn “Danny” Siplin, 33, was found late last week, and authorities have confirmed her identity, Rochester Police announced Sunday.
Siplin had been reported missing on Dec. 23, just two days before Christmas, after family members lost contact with her. Her disappearance prompted a citywide search that included public alerts and extensive outreach from law enforcement.
Officers located a body Friday near the east side of the Genesee River Gorge off St. Paul Street near Bausch Street, not far from where Siplin’s vehicle was found days earlier. The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed the body was Siplin’s.
RPD officials said at this time there does not appear to be any criminal involvement in her death, though the circumstances remain under investigation. Police are urging anyone with information to contact authorities.
Siplin’s family had held out hope for her safe return in the days after she vanished. On the morning of her disappearance, Siplin — who regularly drove her mother to work — left early and told her she planned to “just take a ride.” When she failed to arrive and didn’t respond to calls, her mother reported her missing. Siplin’s car was later found running on the Upper Falls Bridge with the doors closed and her wallet inside.
Friends and relatives described her as a person with a big heart and deep community ties, and her sudden death has devastated those who knew her.
The investigation is ongoing, and police continue to seek tips from the public. Anyone with relevant information is asked to call 911.
