Lollypop Farm Announces Pair of Arrests for Animal Cruelty in Greater Rochester Region

Fairport, N.Y. – Following a pair of thorough investigations, Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, has charged Harold Larson of Rochester, N.Y. with aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony under New York State Agriculture and Markets law 353 and Douglas McPherson of Spencerport, N.Y. with Torturing and Injuring Animals, a misdemeanor under section 353 of New York State Agriculture and Markets law.

On February 25, 2026, humane investigators were dispatched to Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services in Monroe County after receiving a report that a cat had been admitted with severe injuries consistent with having been kicked. Upon arrival, investigators spoke with veterinary staff and interviewed Larson, who admitted to kicking the cat while wearing work boots. The injuries ultimately obstructed the animal’s breathing and resulted in its death. Larson stated that he kicked the cat after it scratched his hand and later sought veterinary care when the animal began showing signs of distress.

“This is a disturbing case that underscores how quickly an act of violence can turn fatal,” said Reno DiDomenico, Vice President of Humane Law Enforcement at Lollypop Farm. “No animal should suffer because of frustration or retaliation. This case underscores the link between animal abuse and human-to-human violence. Our role is to ensure these actions are taken seriously and that those responsible for abusing animals or humans are held accountable under the law. We also want the public to understand that speaking up with factual, first-hand reports can make all the difference in a bringing these perpetrators to justice.”

On October 3, 2025, McPherson was dispatched by the Spencerport Fire District as part of its response to assist a cat that had become stuck in a tree. The incident, which was captured on video, showed McPherson using a high-powered hose to remove the animal, which caused the cat to fall from the tree where it sustained injuries that ultimately led to its death.

“This charge reflects the importance of gathering facts to determine causation and not relying solely on videos posted on social media,” continued DiDomenico. “Our investigators carefully interviewed witnesses, reviewed statements, and examined evidence that supports criminal charges. We are grateful to the individuals who promptly reported the incident, including the Spencerport Fire District, which helped to ensure accountability in this case.”
