Rochester, NY- On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, Monroe County Court Judge Julie Hahn sentenced 20-year-old Kyelon Marbury to 40 years to Life in the New York State Department of Corrections. He was previously convicted by a jury of Murder in the 2nd Degree, four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, and Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree for shooting at a random member of the Rochester community on April 21, 2021, and the killing of James Huff on April 23, 2023.
On April 21, 2023, an individual in the City of Rochester was driving in her vehicle near Rosewood Terrace and Webster Avenue, when she was shot at by Kyelon Marbury and his co- defendant. Fortunately, she was not struck.
Two days later on April 23, 2023, shortly after 1:00 PM, Rochester Police Officers responded to Webster Avenue for reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, 31-year-old James Huff was located between Parsells Avenue and Melville Street with multiple gunshot wounds in his upper body. He was immediately transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries. After a thorough investigation, it was determined that while Mr. Huff was walking home, Kyelon Marbury and at least one other individual shot at him from a moving vehicle. Kyelon Marbury was also identified as the individual responsible for the reckless gunfire on April 21, 2023. The defendant was incarcerated on an unrelated homicide case when he was charged with the murder of James Huff.
Kyelon Marbury was previously sentenced on January 23, 2026, to 50 years to Life in the New York State Department of Corrections for the murder of Jermaine Wilkins and attempted murder of another individual. This sentence will run consecutively, bringing his combined sentence to 90 years to Life in the New York State Department of Corrections. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Michael Harrigan, Chief of the Major Felony Bureau, and Assistant District Attorney Adam VanHeyst, Chief of the Non-Fatal Shooting Taskforce.
“Today’s sentence ensures that Kyelon Marbury will spend the rest of his life being held accountable for the violence he inflicted on this community,” said Assistant District Attorney Adam VanHeyst. “The defendant was convicted by two juries of two separate homicides, and this second life sentence addresses a disturbing pattern of disregard for human life. James Huff was an innocent man simply walking home when he was gunned down in a senseless act of violence. While no amount of time can undo the pain he caused, we hope this sentence provides a measure of justice and finality for his loved ones. We want to thank the members of the Rochester Police Department for their diligent and relentless investigation into Mr. Marbury’s crimes, but for their dedication and efforts Mr. Marbury would not have been held responsible for these horrendous acts.”
“With today’s resolution, Kyelon Marbury will now serve consecutive life sentences for two separate murders, underscoring the severity of his actions and the threat he poses to our community,” said Monroe County District Attorney Brian Green. “The murder of James Huff was not an isolated act, but part of a pattern of dangerous and reckless violence that terrorized many. I am grateful to the Rochester Police Department, ADA Harrigan and ADA VanHeyst for their unwavering commitment to ensuring that Mr. Marbury is held fully accountable for the lives he has taken.”
