Proactive Search for Stolen Vehicle Leads to Arrest of Three Juveniles and Recovery of Two Stolen Guns

Earlier on May 23, 2026, deputies received a License Plate Reader (LPR) activation broadcast for a stolen vehicle. Through proactive police work, deputies located the unoccupied vehicle at 8:53 p.m., parked in the Marketplace Mall parking lot. Deputies continued their investigation with the assistance of mall security. A review of camera footage provided a good description of the vehicle's four occupants as they walked into one of the restaurants after parking the car.
Deputies went into the restaurant and located four juveniles matching the descriptions, sitting at a table. Deputies detained the juveniles and recovered the vehicle keys from a garbage can after learning they were discarded when the deputies walked inside.
One of the juveniles was also in possession of a loaded, single-shot pistol.
While deputies transported the suspects to MCSO B-Zone for interviews, technicians processed the stolen vehicle for evidence. During processing, deputies located a second, loaded, defaced semi-automatic handgun in the vehicle.
Investigators completed interviews and determined one of the juveniles was not involved and released him to his parents.
Three Male Juveniles (13, 14 and 16-years old), all of Rochester, are charged with:
Criminal Possession of a Weapon Second Degree – loaded firearm (Class C-Felony)
Criminal Possession of a Weapon Third Degree – defaced firearm (Class D-Felony)
Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree – stolen vehicle (Class D-Felony)
Following processing, one of the juveniles was released to his parents with an appearance ticket. A Monroe County Court Judge arraigned one juvenile and he was transported to the Rush Detention Center. The remaining juvenile was transported to the detention center without arraignment.
The recovery of two loaded illegal firearms, in the hands of juveniles in this case, highlights the importance of proactive police work and strong partnerships throughout our community. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to its number one priority of public safety by thoroughly investigating criminal activity and removing illegal weapons from our streets before they can be used to harm others. Great work in recognizing and locating the vehicle and acting in a swift manner to ensure no one was injured.
