Jamie Busch Sentenced to 25 Years to Life

Rochester, NY- On Thursday, April 23, 2026, New York State Supreme Court Justice Stephen Miller sentenced 55-year-old Jamie Busch to 25 years to life in the New York State Department of Corrections. The defendant was previously convicted of Murder in the 2nd Degree and two counts of Tampering With Physical Evidence for killing her sister, Penny Busch, and disposing of her body.

On October 11, 2024, Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies arrived to a residence on Ontario Street in the Village of Honeoye Falls for a welfare check of 62-year-old Penny Busch. When she was unable to be located, investigators from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into her suspicious disappearance.

On October 14, 2025, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies narrowed their search and located a deceased woman near the Genesee River in the Town of Rush. The victim was identified as Penny Busch. After a thorough investigation, her sister, Jamie Busch, was arrested for her murder.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jessica Wagner, Deputy Chief of the Special Victims Unit.

“This sentence reflects the depravity and calculated nature of this crime,” said Assistant District Attorney Jessica Wagner. “Jamie Busch not only took the life of her sister, Penny Busch, but made deliberate efforts to conceal that act, prolonging the pain and uncertainty for their family. While no sentence can undo this heart wrenching loss, today’s maximum sentence ensures that the defendant will be held accountable for her actions. We hope this provides Penny’s loved ones with a sense of justice as they continue to heal. Domestic violence does not only occur between intimate partners, it can exist within families, behind closed doors, and in places where victims should feel most secure. If you know somebody struggling in a domestic violence situation, we urge you call the police or Willow Domestic Violence Center.”

“The murder of Penny Busch by her own sister was a deeply disturbing case,” said Monroe County District Attorney Brian Green. “Today’s life sentence is the only appropriate outcome for this devastating act of violence. I commend Assistant District Attorney Jessica Wagner for her dedication to this prosecution, as well as the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office for their persistence and thorough investigative work. Our thoughts remain with the loved ones of Penny Busch.”
