Geva Theatre Presents Topdog/Underdog

Rochester, N.Y. — Geva Theatre presents Suzan Lori Parks’ Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning play, Topdog/Underdog, the story of brothers Lincoln and Booth, who are haunted by their past and obsessed with the street con game three-card monte. A darkly comic fable named the best play of the last 25 years by The New York Times, Topdog/Underdog digs deep into brotherly love, a sibling rivalry foretold by the names their father gave the brothers as a joke, and the long game of American History, as it asks: can we ever change the cards we’re dealt?

This production is directed by Geva’s 2025–27 Artist in Residence and Emmy-nominated director and choreographer Jeffrey L. Page, whose previous work at Geva includes Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill and the New York Time’s Critics Pick production of Ain’t Misbehavin’.

“As we mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, it feels especially meaningful to return to Suzan-Lori Parks’ Topdog/Underdog, a beautiful, philosophical play deeply rooted in American history,” said Geva Artistic Director Elizabeth Williamson. “With extraordinary poetic skill, Parks weaves questions of history, fate, family, and grace into a deeply compelling and emotional story. I’m thrilled to have Jeffrey L. Page at the helm of this production alongside a wonderful cast and creative team.”

Topdog/Underdog runs October 13 – November 22, 2026 on the Fielding Stage. Tickets are on sale now; visit GevaTheatre.org or call the Box Office at 585-232-4382.
