(Albany, NY) - Citizen Action of New York celebrates a series of hard-fought victories in yesterday’s democratic primary elections, as our slate of endorsed progressive candidates triumphed in key races across the state. From Syracuse to Rochester, to the Hudson Valley and the Capital District, voters sent a clear message: they are ready for leaders who fight for justice, equity, and a government that works for all of us—not just the wealthy and well-connected.
“These victories are a testament to the power of grassroots organizing and the desire for bold, transformative leadership across New York,” said Carolyn Martinez-Class and Rebecca Garrard, Co-Executive Directors of Citizen Action of New York. “Our members didn’t just endorse these candidates—they knocked on doors, made calls, and mobilized voters, and the results speak for themselves. These are candidates who will fight for housing justice, fully funded schools, affordable health care, climate action, and an economy where everyone has what they need to thrive.”
We congratulate:
Sharon Owens, Democratic Candidate for Mayor of Syracuse
Dorcey Applrys, Democratic Candidate for Mayor of Albany
Sam Fein, Democratic Candidate for Albany City Auditor
Justin Perkins, Democratic Candidate for Albany Common Council Ward 6
Gabrielle Hill, Candidate for Orange County Legislature, District 6
Stanley Martin, Candidate for Rochester City Council At Large
Chiara Smith, Candidate for Rochester City Council At Large
Camille Simmons, Candidate for Rochester Commissioner of Schools
This primary was a critical step, but it’s not the finish line. As we head toward the general election, we must continue organizing, mobilizing, and building the political power needed to transform New York from the ground up.
