Details: Learning during the summer months should be fun, motivating, and engaging. That is why the Rochester City School District is proud to celebrate its summer learning programs that kicked off on Monday, July 13. This year’s programming is defined by community partnerships aimed at driving both academic success and youth development across the city. From early literacy initiatives to enrichment and graduation-track coursework, the District is offering opportunities that keep students of all ages inspired and on track.
Read Alliance Program (grades 1-3) Supported by City funding, the Read Alliance program is an innovative partnership with Primetime 585 that targets early childhood literacy while providing valuable summer employment for local youth. Through this initiative, 40 trained teen mentors (ages 14–16) are hired as paid reading "buddies" to deliver a free, phonics-based curriculum to a total of 90 students entering grades 1 – 3 across both Virgil I. Grissom School No. 7 and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School No. 9.
