A shooting inside a crowded Brooklyn lounge early Sunday left three people dead and nine others wounded, authorities said, marking one of the deadliest mass shootings in New York City in recent years.

The gunfire erupted around 3:30 a.m. at the Taste of the City Lounge on Franklin Avenue in the Crown Heights neighborhood, police said. Investigators believe up to four gunmen opened fire after a dispute broke out inside the venue.
A 19-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others, ages 27 and 35, later died at hospitals. Nine additional victims, ranging in age from 19 to 61, were being treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Detectives recovered 42 shell casings from 9 mm and .45-caliber weapons and found a firearm near the lounge. Forensic tests are underway to determine whether it was used in the attack.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the shooting appeared to be gang-related. “This was a tragic, senseless act of violence,” she said. “Incidents like this are not typical, especially at a time when New York City is experiencing record lows in shootings.”
Mayor Eric Adams said crisis response teams were deployed to provide trauma support and mediate with victims’ families to help prevent retaliatory violence. He urged anyone with information to contact police.
The attack comes less than three weeks after a July 29 shooting at a Manhattan office building that killed four people and wounded another, underscoring concerns about gun violence even as overall shootings decline citywide.
As of Sunday evening, no arrests had been announced. Police continue to review surveillance footage and interview witnesses.
