ROCHESTER, NY - On Saturday, January 10, around 12:30am, Officers responded to an address in Northeast Rochester for the caller reporting that his cousin was being held hostage at a house in the 100 block of Weyl Street. The victim reported that he and his cousin had gone to the house to purchase drugs and were held captive over an alleged drug debt. The victim further reported that after being assaulted, he was followed to the nearby address in order to obtain valuables to pay off the debt.
Officers responded to the house on Weyl Street, where 22-year old Wilson Ventura-Cruz quickly ran from the front porch. He was safely taken into custody in a nearby backyard and a Glock .40 caliber handgun, loaded with 12 rounds, was located in the yard next to him. Additionally, an occupant inside of the house discarded a Glock 9mm handgun, loaded with 27 rounds, out of a side window of the house.
The house was quickly surrounded and the second victim, bound with duct tape, ran from the house to Officers. After a period of time, three additional suspects exited the location. Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Section wrote a search warrant for the house and the Rochester Police Department’s SWAT Team served the warrant, finding no additional occupants. During the subsequent search, almost 300 vials of suspect fentanyl and a bloody sword were recovered.
Both victims reported that they were bound with tape, assaulted, and bit by a dog, which caused significant injuries.
As a result of the investigation, the following individuals were transported to the Monroe County Jail and charged as follows:
Wilson Ventura-Cruz, age 22, from West Reading Pennsylvania, was charged with Kidnapping in the 1st Degree, Robbery in the 1st Degree, Assault in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd/3rd Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree.
