Rochester, NY - Reconnect Rochester will hold their 5th Annual ROC’ n Roll Fundraising Bike Ride on Sunday, May 31st at Rohrbach’s Railroad Street Beer Hall. While many local rides support important causes, this event stands apart as the only one focused specifically on making everyday biking safer and more accessible for everyone, along with Reconnect Rochester’s other work championing mobility in all forms.
Cyclists, families, and community advocates will gather at Rohrbach’s for the 30 mile ride through low stress areas at 8:30AM or the 8 mile family friendly ride that mostly sticks to traffic free trails at 10:00AM. Funds raised will support initiatives such as Reconnect Rochester’s bicycle education, transit advocacy, and on-street safety projects such as Complete Streets Makeover and Downtown SmART Streets.
“This is a great way to see some pleasant places to ride that already exist in Rochester, while supporting the effort to create even more,” says Cycling Manager Jesse Peers. “Some of these bikeways are easily overlooked. Hopefully this event inspires participants to bike more.”
Adding to the excitement, participants can form teams with a friendly competition for the most creative theme and biggest group. Local Rochester groups Just For Giggles, Rochester Rainbow Riders, and Rochester Bicycling Club, and the Beer Coasters have already signed up for the ride.
From regular commuters to weekend warriors to any intermediate level rider, participants of all kinds are encouraged to join. The ROC ‘n Roll aims to showcase Rochester’s growing demand for safer streets and to inspire lasting change in how the city supports active transportation.
Those who want to support the cause but aren’t up for riding are encouraged to attend the after party at the Rohrbach Railroad Street Beer Hall.
