Rochester, NY- On Thursday, August 21, 2025, 32-year-old Nicole Guilds was convicted by a Monroe County jury of Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person in the 1st Degree for the abuse of a 6-year-old physically and mentally disabled child.
On December 6, 2023, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the parents of a 6-year-old child who received private duty nursing care from Nicole Guilds. The family turned over home surveillance footage of the defendant abusing their child. After a thorough investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Nicole Guilds was arrested for the abuse of the child. Her nursing license was suspended at the time of the arrest.
This case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Courtney Kleiman, of the Special Victims Unit.
“It is disheartening when someone entrusted with the care of our children, especially a trained medical professional, violates that trust and endangers the most vulnerable among us,” said Assistant District Attorney Courtney Kleiman. “Nicole Guilds was not only a registered nurse, but someone specifically charged with caring for a child facing health challenges and disabilities. Her betrayal of that responsibility is both heartbreaking and inexcusable. I commend the incredible strength of this child’s family for coming forward and bravely testifying against someone they welcomed into their home. I also want to express my sincere gratitude to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office for their investigation, which brought justice today. I hope that today’s verdict shows the community that the abuse of children of any ability will never be tolerated.”
“Nicole Guilds abused a defenseless child who relied completely on the adults around him for safety and care,” said Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley. “Her actions are not only deeply troubling; they are an outright betrayal of her oath as a healthcare provider. No child deserves to suffer in silence, especially at the hands of someone meant to protect them. This case is a painful reminder of why we must remain vigilant in protecting our most vulnerable, and why we must continue to hold abusers fully accountable. I am proud of the team who fought for justice in this case, and of the courage shown by the victim’s family in speaking the truth on behalf of their child.”
Nicole Guilds is scheduled to be sentenced on October 31, 205 in front of Monroe County Court Judge Hahn.
