Rochester, NY- On Monday, December 22, 2025, 29-year-old Lakwan Hannah pled guilty to two counts of Murder in the 2nd Degree for killing Jared Perry and Marquis Chambers.
At approximately 1:35 AM on May 4, 2024, Rochester Police Officers were called to Lyell Avenuein the City of Rochester for reports of shots fired. Upon their arrival, 31-year-old Marquis Chambers was located on the porch and 29-year-old Jared Perry was located inside the house. Both men were fatally shot and pronounced dead at the scene.
After a thorough investigation, Rochester Police Detectives determined that Lakwan Hannah was responsible for both murders. Evidence shows that he drove to the house on Lyell Avenue, exited his car, and opened fire at multiple people who were sitting on the front porch, killing Marquis Chambers and injuring a second individual. He then proceeded inside the house, where he chased down and killed Jared Perry. Lakwan Hannah was on probation at the time of the homicides. Shortly following the murders, the defendant fled New York State.
In January, 2025, Lakwan Hannah was arrested on various charges in Euless, Texas. The Rochester Police Department and the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office worked with Texas authorities to bring him back to Monroe County to face murder charges in New York State.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Patrick Gallagher, Chief of the Domestic Violence Bureau, and Senior Assistant District Attorney Mikael Pelkey, of the Special Victims Unit.
“Lakwan Hannah was supposed to be Jared Perry’s friend. Yet following a minor disagreement, the defendant drove to Lyell Avenue and opened fire on a porch full of people, killing Marquis Chambers and injuring another, before continuing inside the residence where multiple children were located where he ultimately killed Jared Perry,” said Assistant District Attorney Patrick Gallagher. “His actions were calculated, brazen, and senseless and now two families are left without their beloved sons and brothers, and Jared and Marquis’ children will grow up without their fathers. I hope that this admission of guilt and life sentence offers some measure of peace and closure to the families of the victims.”
“Lawan Hannah was no stranger to the criminal justice system when he shot and killed Jared Perry and Marquis Chambers,” said Monroe County District Attorney Brian Green. “Had he complied with the terms of his probation, he would not have had access to a firearm and would not have been out committing this devastating act of violence. I commend the Rochester Police Department for their tireless efforts in identifying the defendant, securing his arrest, and bringing him back to Monroe County to be held fully accountable for his crimes. I also must thank the family and friends of Jared Perry and Marquis Chambers for their support and cooperation during this heartbreaking process.”
Lakwan Hannah will be sentenced on January 28, 2026, in front of New York State Supreme Court Justice Alex Renzi. He is expected to be sentenced to 34 years to Life in the New York State Department of Corrections.
