Rochester, NY- On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, a Monroe County jury convicted 19-year- old Kyelon Marbury of Murder in the 2nd Degree, Attempted Murder in the 2nd Degree, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree for killing Jermaine Wilkins on February 18, 2023 and the attempted murder of another member of our community.
On February 18, 2023, at approximately 2:40PM, a vehicle was driving down Scio Street when the defendant jumped out of the vehicle and shot multiple gunshots at an unknown individual, and then proceeded to fire multiple rounds while hanging out the window of that same vehicle. The intended target was not hit by the gunfire.
Later that night at approximately 9:15 PM, 35-year-old Jermaine Wilkins was outside in the area of Denver Street and Melville Street when the suspect ran down the street and fired multiple gunshots from a rifle at the victim.
Rochester Police Officers responded to a house on Parsells Avenue for reports of a man shot. Upon arrival, Rochester Police Officers located Jermaine Wilkins, who ran to the porch and asked the residents to call 911 for his injuries. Despite the lifesaving efforts of the residents of the house and the police, Jermaine Wilkins died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Following a detailed investigation by the Rochester Police Department, it was determined that the same defendant participated in both shootings on February 18, 2023. Kyelon Marbury, who was 17-years-old at the time of the crimes, was identified as the suspect for both incidents. On July 21, 2023, members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force and the Rochester Police Department SWAT Team, located and apprehended Kyelon Marbury in a hotel in the Town of Henrietta, where he was arrested for the murder of Jermaine Wilkins and the previous daytime shooting. Kyelon Marbury was also charged with the murder of James Huff on April 23, 2023. This case is scheduled for trial at a later date.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Adam VanHeyst, Deputy Chief of the Major Felony Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Michael Harrigan, Chief of the Major Felony Bureau.
“On two separate occasions on February 18, 2023, Kyelon Marbury exited a motor vehicle and violently and callously fired off rounds at victims for no reason,” said Assistant District Attorney Adam VanHeyst. “While I am grateful that the defendant did not hit the intended target or innocent bystanders in the afternoon, he murdered Jermaine Wilkins that same night. The defendant was out that day with the intention to terrorize and harm innocent members of the Rochester community. I hope this conviction brings a sense of justice and peace to Jermaine Wilkins’ family and loved ones, who have lived with this unimaginable loss for years.”
“Gun violence and reckless behavior tear at the fabric of our community, and the murder of Jermaine Wilkins is a tragic reminder of the devastation this behavior leaves behind,” said Monroe County District Attorney Brian Green. “Kyelon Marbury showed a complete disregard for human life when he took the life of Jermaine Wilkins and opened fire on our community. I commend the Rochester Police Department, ADA VanHeyst, and ADA Harrigan for their outstanding work in bringing this dangerous individual to justice, and I want the people of Monroe County to know that we will continue to stand firm against those who choose to promote violence.”
Kyelon Marbury will be sentenced on January 23, 2026, in front of Monroe County Court Judge Hahn.
