Justin Porter Sentenced to 20 Years for the Homicide of Brandon Wyand

Rochester, NY- On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, New York State Supreme Court Justice Dinolfo sentenced 33-year-old Justin Porter to 20 years in the New York State Department of Corrections plus 5 years of post-release supervision. He previously pled guilty to Manslaughter in the 1st Degree for the homicide of Brandon Wyand.
On the morning of August 20, 2024, Rochester Police Officers were called to the corner of Joseph Avenue and Seabrook Street for a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers located 31-year-old Brandon Wyand, who had been stabbed in the upper body. The victim was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
After a thorough investigation by the Rochester Police Department, it was determined that Justin Porter was responsible for stabbing Brandon Wyand. Before the altercation, the defendant and victim were not known to each other. Justin Porter was arrested for the homicide.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Gregory Clark, Chief of the Public Integrity/Economic Crimes Bureau.
“Justin Porter’s violent attack resulted in the tragic and senseless death of Brandon Wyand,” said Assistant District Attorney Gregory Clark. “Thanks to the diligent and thorough investigation by the Rochester Police Department, we were able to hold Porter accountable for his choices. While no sentence can undo the harm caused, today’s outcome ensures that Porter will be removed from our community. I sincerely hope that he uses this time in the New York State Department of Corrections to reflect on his decisions that ended the life of Brandon Wyand.”

While no sentence can bring Brandon back, we hope that today’s outcome delivers a measure of justice for those who loved him. The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office remains steadfast in holding violent offenders accountable and protecting the safety of everyone in Monroe County.”
