Hudson Avenue Gun Arrests


Rochester, NY - Around 5:15pm, last night, Officers responded to the 800 block of Joseph Avenue for a ShotSpotter activation. During the subsequent investigation, Officers stepped out with a group of males gathered around a 2022 Honda in the 1000 block of Hudson Avenue. At the time, 20-year old Mekhi Ragland was occupying the driver seat. While speaking with the group, Officers observed that the front seat passenger, 19-year old Antonio O’Neal, had what appeared to be a rifle between his legs. Officers quickly detained O’Neal and the other occupants of the vehicle, recovering an AR style pistol. During this time, the rear passenger, 19 year old Jaylen Melton, was found to have a loaded handgun and extended magazine in his waistband. Additionally, a 3rd handgun was observed on the floor of the vehicle.


Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Section responded to the scene and drafted a search warrant, which included the nearby corner store associated with the incident. A fourth firearm was recovered from within the vehicle and a fifth firearm was recovered from inside of the store.


The recovered firearms include:


  • MOE AR style pistol with a defaced serial number, loaded with 30 rounds of .223 caliber ammunition.

  • Glock handgun, loaded with 13 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition.

  • Glock handgun, loaded with 31 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

  • Glock handgun, loaded with 25 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition.

  • Glock handgun, loaded with 14 rounds of .45 caliber ammunition.


The investigation into the possession of the firearms and shots fired incident continues. The following individuals were transported to the Monroe County Jail and charged as follows:


Mekhi Ragland, age 20, is charged with two counts each of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd and 3rd Degree.


Antonio O’Neal, age 19, is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree and three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree.


Jaylen Melton, age 19, is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree.


Update:

All three defendants were arraigned this morning in Rochester City Court and released with non-monetary conditions.
