Gun Safety Presentation

Rochester, NY- All adults are encouraged to join us for a Be SMART Presentation on Monday, October 6, 2025 at 7 PM at the Messiah Lutheran Church to learn how parents, caregivers, and community leaders can keep our kids safe. This presentation is relevant for both gun owners and non-gun owners. We will discuss a proven means of preventing kids from accessing firearms.  

Be SMART is a national nonprofit 501(c)(3) public safety education campaign launched in 2015 to promote responsible firearm ownership with the goal of reducing firearm-related injuries and deaths among children. Be SMART is an acronym representing 5 simple steps that each person can take, as every adult has a role in helping to keep all kids safe:

Secure firearms in your home and vehicles

Model responsible behavior around guns

Ask about the presence of unsecured firearms in other homes

Recognize the role of guns in suicide

Tell your peers to be S-M-A-R-T
