Monroe Community Hospital will receive more than $10 million from New York state to expand and modernize its pediatric and ventilator units, county officials announced Tuesday.
The $10.175 million award, part of Gov. Kathy Hochul’s Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program, is among $300 million directed to 50 health care projects statewide. The program is designed to expand access to inpatient, primary, behavioral health and long-term care services.
“This significant investment in Monroe Community Hospital reflects our ongoing commitment to providing the highest quality care for our residents,” County Executive Adam Bello said. “Expanding and modernizing our pediatric and ventilator units ensures that our residents receive the specialized services they need. We’re proud to support MCH as it continues its nearly 200-year legacy of compassionate, cutting-edge health care.”
MCH Executive Health Director Alyssa Tallo said the funding will make a lasting impact.
“This grant is an extraordinary boost for MCH and the community we serve,” Tallo said. “It will help us expand and improve care in our pediatric and ventilator units, ensuring these vital services continue to meet the highest standards for years to come.”
Along with increasing pediatric bed capacity and improving the ventilator unit, the grant will pay for renovations to an adjacent outdoor playground. The project complements ongoing upgrades to the hospital’s Friendship Building, scheduled for completion in summer 2026. Supported by the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, the Friendship Place project will provide a safe and supportive home for individuals with dementia and wandering-like behaviors.
MCH, a county-owned residential health care facility, has served the Rochester region for nearly two centuries. The campus on East Henrietta Road opened in 1933 and has been recognized nationally for innovative long-term care for patients with complex health needs.
