Rochester, NY- On Thursday, September 11, 2025, 37-year-old Brandon Decapua was convicted by a Monroe County jury of Burglary in the 1st Degree as a Sexually Motivated Felony, three counts of Sexual Abuse in the 1st Degree, three counts of Attempted Rape in the 1st Degree, and Public Lewdness for two separate incidents at the University of Rochester campus on January 17, 2025.

On January 17, 2025, around 11:00AM, a 22-year-old student called Officers from the University of Rochester Public Safety Department after she was sexually harassed in a library on campus. A man exposed himself to the student, then chased her around a table while gratifying himself. The suspect ran away before the arrival of the peace officers.

Approximately three hours later, an 18-year-old student flagged down patrolling University of Rochester Public Safety Department Officers, bleeding and distraught. The same offender located this student at the Genesee Residence Hall, where he sexually assaulted the victim and attempted to violently rape her. The victim fought off the assailant and ran outside to find help.

The defendant was located walking on campus within minutes of the victim’s report to the University of Rochester Public Safety Department. He was identified as Brandon Decapua, a Level 3 Sexual Offender on federal post-release supervision. The defendant was not affiliated with the University of Rochester.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Sara Vanstrydonck, Chief of the Special Victims Unit.

“Brandon Decapua is a dangerous sexual predator who targeted and terrorized two young women for his own violent and sexual gratification. Thanks to the bravery of these survivors, this dangerous sex offender will now be sent to the New York State Department of Corrections,” said Assistant District Attorney Sara Vanstrydonck. “This conviction will ensure that Brandon Decapua cannot victimize any more members of our community. This conviction is a powerful reminder that when survivors come forward, we can stop predators and protect our community. I hope that today’s conviction will assist these survivors in their journey to recovery.”

“Brandon Decapua is sexual predator who preyed upon two college students,” said Acting Monroe County District Attorney Perry Duckles. “His crimes were calculated, violent, and utterly depraved. The extraordinary strength shown by these two survivors by facing him in court is nothing short of heroic. Brandon Decapua poses a clear and present danger to our community, and it is only appropriate that he face a lengthy sentence in the New York State Department of Corrections. Our community is safer because of the bravery of these young women and the swift action of law enforcement.”

Brandon Decapua is scheduled to be sentenced on October 15, 2025, in front of New York State Supreme Court Justice Renzi.
