Bartlett Street Shooting Arrest


Rochester, NY - Around 5:15pm, last night, Officers responded to the area of Bartlett Street and Seward Street for the report of gunshots heard. Subsequent calls reported that there was a male shot. When Officers arrived on scene, they found a 37-year old male and a 20-year old male suffering from gunshot wound(s) to their lower bodies. They were transported to Strong Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.


During the preliminary investigation by Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Section’s Non-Fatal Shooting Unit, suspects and a suspect vehicle were identified. Around 10pm, Officers located the vehicle in the 200 block of Mt. Read Blvd and attempted to stop it. The vehicle fled and a pursuit began which traversed a significant portion of the west side of the City of Rochester. Officers briefly lost sight of the vehicle in the area of Lake Avenue and West Ridge Road. A perimeter was quickly established and the vehicle was located, unoccupied, on Primrose Street. Officers continued to work the scene and located the suspects nearby, safely taking them into custody. Both suspects were transported to the Monroe County Jail.


32-year old Latifah Johnson is charged with Assault in the 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree. She is currently on Parole for a previous Robbery in the 1st Degree conviction.


35-year old James Williams Jr. is charged with Assault in the 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree. He is currently on Probation for a previous Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree conviction.
