Seward Street:

On October 31, around 1:45am, Officers responded to the 500 block of Seward Street for a ShotSpotter activation indicating at least one round fired. Upon arrival, Officers observed a female holding a male, who was in possession of a handgun, down on the ground. Officers quickly recovered the handgun and took him into custody. They also found a female, in her 30s, suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. She was transported to Strong Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation found that the victim and another female were dropping the suspect off, when an argument occurred. The females left but returned for lost property, at which time the suspect exited the house and began firing at them with a handgun. One of the females was struck and the other quickly tackled the suspect, holding him down until Officers arrived.

45-year old Curtis Jones was safely taken into custody and a defaced Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun recovered. He was transported to the Monroe County, arraigned in CAP Court, and is currently being held on a $100,000 bail.

Curtis Jones, age 45, is charged with Attempted Murder in the 2nd Degree, Assault in the 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, and Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree.

East Main Street:

Officers ran towards the gunfire and observed a 17-year old male trying to get into the backseat of a vehicle, in order to evade police. He then tried to run from Officers and was safely taken into custody. While taking him into custody, Officers found him to be in possession of a 9mm “ghost gun” with the slide locked to the rear, indicating it had been fired until out of ammunition.

Additional Officers located two victims, age 16 and 17, suffering from gunshot wounds to the torso. They were both transported to Strong Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A short time later, Officers responded to Rochester General Hospital for a 17-year old male that had arrived with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the torso, from this incident.

During the subsequent investigation, Officers located two additional handguns that had been discarded on the sidewalk. Two Officers also sustained non-life threatening injuries to the upper body, while taking the suspect into custody.
