Warwick Street Incident

Rochester, NY - Just after 1am, Officers responded to the 100 block of Kirkland Road for the report of two males fighting over a shotgun with a dog trying to bite people. Officers arrived and found multiple males involved in an altercation, on Warwick Street, with an aggressive dog running around and biting people. The dog charged towards one of the Officers, who fired two shots from his department issued handgun, in a downward direction, towards the dog. The dog was not struck and ran away from the Officer, back towards the fight. A short time later, the dog charged towards a second Officer, who fired one round, in a downward angle, towards the dog. Pepper spray was used to break up the fight and multiple people were detained.

The preliminary investigation found that a resident in the 100 block of Kirkland Road was awoken to the sounds of 34-year old David Singletary allegedly damaging his vehicle in the driveway. The resident went outside with an unloaded shotgun, at which time Singletary allegedly pointed a knife at him. An altercation ensued, during which time Singletary’s mask came off and the resident realized he was a family member. During the altercation, the resident’s dog got out of the house and began attacking those involved, including witness neighbors.

Singletary was treated and released for a laceration to his hand that appears to be from a dog bite. He was transported to the Monroe County Jail and charged with Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree and Menacing in the 2nd Degree.

The resident was treated and released for exposure to pepper spray.

Two witnesses were treated for dog bite type injuries.

Approximately one hour after the incident, one of the witnesses complained of additional injuries. He was transported to Strong Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. We are currently working with the medical staff at Strong Hospital to determine the cause of the injuries.

The dog was not injured and ran back to its house on Kirkland Road.
