Three-car crash at East Avenue and North Union Street leaves several people injured

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Three people have serious but non-life-threatening injuries after a three-car crash on Sunday at Rochester’s East End. It happened at the intersection of East Avenue and Union Street around 12:30 p.m. A white BMW, driven by a 37-year-old woman with a 39-year-old male passenger, was traveling northbound on Union Street. The investigation revealed the BMW ran a red light at a high speed and collided with a blue van traveling westbound on East Avenue, police said.

The van, driven by a 25-year-old man with a 27-year-old female passenger, was redirected northbound down Union Street after the crash. Both passengers in the BMW and the van suffered serious injuries and were taken to the hospital. The BMW then hit a stationary green wagon at the red light on Union Street. The wagon’s driver, a 34-year-old man, and a 30-year-old female passenger complained of minor pain and were treated at the scene.

Police said speed was a factor, but the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Numerous citations will be issued, though specific charges are still being determined. The intersection was closed down but has since reopened. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
