Summer Reading Kicks Off and Library Teen Sticker Contest Winners Announced

(Wednesday, June 25, 2025) – Mayor Malik D. Evans was joined by Library Director Emily Clasper at the Central Library’s Teen Center today to kick off summer reading and announce the winners of the Rochester Public Library Teen Sticker Contest.

“Summer break is around the corner and our libraries will be open all summer long to help students achieve their summer reading goals,” said Mayor Malik D. Evans. “We encourage all Rochesterians to get their library cards and enjoy all the library has to offer for free – all in comfortable air conditioning. Heading to the library is also the best way to collect a sticker designed by one of our very own talented young designers – make sure to get yours before they run out!”

Rochester residents who sign up for a new library card now through August 31 will be entered in a raffle to win one media item of their choice, valued up to $30, such as a book, movie, or CD. Three new card holders will become winners – one for each summer month in June, July and August.

In addition, the libraries where the winning card holders signed up will also receive a copy of the item selected to add to their collection for patrons to sign out and enjoy. The Friends and Foundation of the Rochester Public Library (FFRPL) generously provided funds for the summer raffle.

With a library card, community members can access a wide variety of free resources across the entire Monroe County Library System, including books, music, movies, events, Wi-Fi, workshops, computers, and much more.

“Our libraries offer a wide variety of resources, but I will always encourage our young people to explore the power of a good book,” said Library Director Emily Clasper. “There are so many classic and brand-new books, there’s literally something for everyone.”

The theme for this year’s Rochester Public Library Summer Reading Program is “Color Our World.” Librarians from across Rochester Public Libraries have begun sharing their summer reading recommendations for readers of all ages. Visit your local branch to learn more about their top picks.

The Rochester Public Library held its Teen Sticker Contest earlier this year. It invited youth who live in the city to submit a sticker design celebrating our libraries. Six winning designs were turned into stickers and are now available at City Library locations, while supplies last.

Winning stickers were designed by:

  • Matilda Jane Gross, Winton Branch Library

  • Dre’Quan King, Sully Branch Library

  • Odie J. Kribs, Douglass Branch Library

  • Faith J. Kribs, Sully Branch Library

  • Nashiely Castro, Central Branch Library

  • Casha Satolic, Sully Branch Library
