Rochester, NY – On Monday, October 6, 2025, a private security guard who is contracted through the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) to perform traffic control was involved in a confrontation with non-passenger about a personal matter. Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies, who patrol inside the terminal, responded and defused of the matter in a professional and timely manner. No one was injured during the situation.
While private security has been contracted to provide vehicular traffic control and pedestrian safety at the Arrival and Departure levels, MCSO deputies now have a greater presence inside the terminal building to ensure the safety of passengers, airport and airline staff, and other airport visitors. Contrary to false reports, MCSO presence at the ROC Airport is currently unchanged and has been unchanged since the private security contract began a few months ago. Additionally, MSCO deputies continue to patrol the public and secured areas of the airport terminal and perform perimeter and airfield ramp checks, as required by federal TSA mandates.
