Mayor Malik D. Evans today announced the return of ROC the Riverway Weekend, September 26–28, 2025, a three-day celebration of Rochester’s revitalized Genesee River waterfront that will also feature events marking the 250th anniversary of the Erie Canal, a historic milestone for the region.
“This weekend is a chance to celebrate the Erie Canal and the Genesee River, their shared history, and their lasting impact on Rochester’s growth and culture,” said Mayor Evans. “From scenic cruises and historical tours to family activities and community festivals, ROC the Riverway Weekend invites everyone to explore the river, enjoy the canal, and see the many ways these waterways shaped our city.”
Events include scenic and birding-focused boat cruises, Genesee River cruises, sunset music and fireworks cruises, tours of the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse, guided walking, bicycle, and paddle tours, historical presentations, and family-friendly activities such as the Sam Patch Kids’ Cruise, the MVP Health Care Fall Fest, and Autumn at the Lake. Visitors can also view the fall salmon run and participate in a sturgeon release near the Lower Falls.
ROC the Riverway Weekend highlights Rochester’s ongoing waterfront revitalization through the City’s largest public works program, featuring a mix of completed projects, initiatives in planning, and future enhancements along the Genesee River, including efforts to expand and connect the Genesee Riverway Trail.
