RHA Announces Opening of the Waiting List

The Rochester Housing Authority (RHA) announced the opening of its Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) waiting list, funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Starting Thursday, May 23 at noon, RHA will accept applications for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list. “We are thrilled to open up our waiting list for Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers!” said Shawn Burr, Executive Director of RHA. “These vouchers will offer much-needed assistance to eligible families and individuals, providing them with the opportunity to live in safe, high-quality, and affordable housing across Monroe, Wayne, Ontario, Orleans, and Livingston counties where RHA administers the HCV program.”

RHA will begin accepting online applications at noon on May 23, 2024. The online submission portal will be open 24 hours a day until 4:00 pm on June 7, 2024. Interested parties can apply directly through the RHA website at www.rochesterhousing.org.

Prospective applicants are advised to have essential information ready for all household members, including names, dates of birth, social security numbers, income, and assets. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations to complete the online application can contact 585-697-6105. Those with hearing impairments can reach out to the 711 TTY service. RHA anticipates approximately 20,000 applications for the HCV waiting list. Through the use of an AI-generated randomizing tool, RHA will select 4,000 candidates. Once an applicant reaches the top of the waiting list, they will be contacted to provide further eligibility details and attend a program briefing.

A press conference is scheduled for May 21, 2024, at 3:00 pm at 675 West Main Street, Rochester, NY, 14611, to reveal more details on this opportunity.
