RG&E Joining Rochester Police Department and City of Rochester for Second HBCU Football Classic Event

ree

ROCHESTER, N.Y. Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) is collaborating for a second year with the Rochester Police Department and City of Rochester for the annual Frederick Douglass HBCU Football Classic, between Central State and Lane College on Saturday, September 27. The football game will be held at the Rochester Community Sports Complex.

This experience celebrates the rich culture of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and strengthens the bonds between the community and law enforcement while honoring the legacy of Frederick Douglass, who called Rochester home from 1847 to 1872.

“Events like these highlight the rich culture of Rochester in which we all should immerse ourselves,” said RG&E president Al Langland. “RG&E is proud to sponsor this event for a second year, providing opportunities for young people to connect with mentors and see the possibilities for a bright future.” “I’m excited to kick off Rochester’s second annual HBCU Classic event,” said Rochester Mayor Malik D. Evans. “This 'weekend of hope’ is an excellent opportunity to introduce Rochester students to the academic excellence, pride, and tradition of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. I encourage the entire community to come out, purchase your tickets, and support our youth as we celebrate the power of community and culture.”

The HBCU Football Classic is more than football; it’s about connecting students with future opportunities. RG&E will participate in the HBCU College Expo at the Blue Cross Arena, where students can connect with more than 20 representatives from Historically Black Colleges and Universities. RG&E will have representatives engaging with students about the Company’s trades programs that are available to select area high schools.

The Company will have its mobile command unit at the Rochester Community Sports Complex on game day, handing out giveaways to customers, along with information about programs that can help them manage their energy use as we get closer to the fall and winter seasons.
