New Social-Emotional Health and Wellness Pilot Program Launched by City R-Centers

Thomas P. Ryan R-Center

Mayor Malik D. Evans invites Rochester's youth and families to learn more about the emotional health and wellness support services that are being offered at four City R-Centers.

“Rochester’s R-Centers are community treasures that already deliver immense value to city residents,” said Evans. “And now those services are being enhanced with the availability of free, professional social, mental, and emotional health providers. There are many youth who need our help and unfortunately, the dangers and trauma they face are becoming more acute, so we are finding every possible opportunity to support them.”

Starting Wednesday, July 19, 2023, licensed community-based child and family therapists and social learning specialists are available at four of city R-Centers during regular business hours for registered R-Center youth and families.

Information sessions are scheduled:

  • 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, Thomas P. Ryan R-Center, 530 Webster Ave.

  • 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 9, The Honorable Willie Walker Lightfoot R-Center for Equity and Justice, 271 Flint St.

  • 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 23, David F. Gantt R-Center, 700 North St.

“Mayor Evans is focusing our priorities through the lens of our youth,” said Commissioner Dr. Shirley Green. “These services can make a big difference in decreasing violence, developing healthy coping skills, and helping youth learn how to lead successful lives.”

R-Centers provide a wide variety of programs to keep youth and families engaged in a safe place. During the summer, all 11 City R-Centers are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. through 7:30 p.m., and several are open on Saturday.
