ROCHESTER, N.Y. — To reduce the risk of hospitalizations and other health complications during the holiday season, HCR Home Care is encouraging patients to keep their medical appointments.
During the holidays, HCR sees a significant rise in canceled health care appointments, which can have a negative impact on patient outcomes. Missed appointments often result in delayed wound healing, poor medication compliance, and complications from chronic conditions such as diabetes, which can contribute to an increase in hospitalizations.
Seasonal factors such as changes in diet, increased alcohol consumption, reduced physical activity, and weather-related hazards like ice and snow further contribute to health risks during the holidays.
“The holiday season is a very busy time, but we strongly encourage patients to maintain their care routines,” said Adrianne Mann, chief nursing officer at HCR Home Care. “Missing home care visits and other medical appointments can lead to the exacerbation of chronic illnesses, serious health risks, such as falls, infections and hospital stays and can extend surgery-recovery times.”
“By keeping scheduled appointments, patients can stay on track with their health goals and avoid unnecessary complications, helping them enjoying the season in good health,” Mann added.
