Murder Arrest: 540 Portland Ave.

On September 22, 2025 at about 5:45 AM, officers were called to the gas station at 540 Portland Ave. for a person stabbed. Upon arrival they located 59-year-old Laverne Singletary suffering from at least one stab wound to his chest. He was rushed to URMC by AMR and was pronounced dead a short time later.

Responding officers obtained a description of the suspect and located 32-year-old Antonio McKnight still in the area. He was taken into custody without incident. During the course of the investigation Major Crimes Detectives revealed that McKnight and Singletary are both currently homeless. They became involved in a verbal altercation that led to McKnight stabbing Singletary with a screwdriver.

McKnight has been charged with Murder in the 2nd Degree and will be arraigned at a time to be determined.
