Local Author Karen Ward-Wilder Inspires Young Minds through Book Reading, Give-Away Event

Karen Ward-Wilder's, Zackity Zack the Cat, Sparkles His Teeth

Karen Ward-Wilder, a local author, speaker, entrepreneur is once again spreading the joy of reading and learning among the youth of the community with the presentation of her latest children's book, "Zackity Zack the Cat, Sparkles His Teeth."


The upcoming event is Saturday, August 12, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., will take place at the Phillis Wheatley Community Library, at 33 Dr. Samuel McCree Way in Rochester, NY. Admission is free, and those interested in attending can secure their spot by pre-registering via email at Karenwilder117@yahoo.com. The pre-registration deadline is Friday, August 11.


The event will feature a book reading and signing by the author herself. Children attending the event will have the opportunity to actively participate in the reading, fostering their love for books and storytelling. Adding to the excitement, a theme song for the book series, created in collaboration with Rochester's own Music Producer Darryl Cathey from World Dignity Records, will have children singing and dancing along.


Illustrated by Meghna Sarkar, "Zackity Zack the Cat, Sparkles His Teeth" is more than just a book series. It encompasses an audio book and a coloring book, catering to different learning styles. Recognizing that children absorb information through various mediums, Ward-Wilder has designed her educational materials to engage young minds visually and auditorily. The series' theme song not only adds an element of fun but also aids in word memorization, making reading a delightful experience both at home and in school.


The event will be a literary experience but also a range of educational goodies. Attendees will receive complimentary books, school backpacks, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. Furthermore, each family will receive a complimentary copy of the featured book.


Ward-Wilder has organized several Youth Book-Give-Away events, donating thousands of copies of her five published books to eager young readers. This initiative has been made possible through donations from her company as well as contributions from various Rochester businesses.


Karen's journey began early, her passion for writing emerged during her formative years and was sparked while pursuing a degree in Psychology at N.C. A & T- North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University. Combining her love for writing with her desire to make a positive impact, Ward-Wilder seamlessly integrated her counseling and writing expertise to craft her five educational and inspiring books.


Ward-Wilder's mission is clear: to empower both youth and adults.


“My writings are to encourage both youth and adults,” said Ward-Wilder. “My passion is to help youth to recognize the greatness inside of them, bring out their inner self-confidence, and to enjoy fulfilling their life purpose. Make the best out of each day.”


One of her works, "Playing With Hidden Treasures at Home-Games and Activities for Children and Teens," was conceived during the pandemic. The book, available in both paperback and e-book formats, it encouraged families to bond and learn while having fun within the confines of their homes.


Her influence extends beyond her local community. Literary readings to audiences in Houston, TX, and Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, NY. She has also delivered educational presentations worldwide, from preschools to college campuses. Her commitment to making a difference was evident even during her educational tour in Senegal and Ghana, West Africa, where she penned a moving skit titled "Freedom In The Motherland."


With over two decades of experience in the literary field, she acknowledges the individuals who have been instrumental in her journey. Darryl Cathey, Rick Osborne, Tony Burris, Shirley Freeman, and Deborah White-Green, collectively her core group for two decades, have played pivotal roles in producing and promoting her latest book. These dynamic individuals have not only shared her vision but also collaborated to bring it to life.


As the event date approaches, anticipation grows for an engaging and enriching experience that will surely leave a lasting impact on the young attendees. Ward-Wilder's dedication to education and her innovative approach to nurturing young minds continue to make a profound difference in the lives of the youth in Rochester and beyond.
