Edison Estremera-Cohen Convicted by a Jury

Rochester, NY – On Monday, September 21, 2026, a Monroe County jury convicted 35-year-old Edison Estremera-Cohen of two counts of Murder in the 2nd Degree, Robbery in the 1st Degree, and four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree for the murder of David Vazquez.

On June 22, 2025, at approximately 7:00 a.m., Rochester Police Officers were called to a vacant house on Oscar Street in the City of Rochester. Upon arrival, officers found the body of 30-year- old David Vazquez, who was deceased with multiple gunshot wounds.

The suspect was seen stealing money from David Vazquez then shooting him, before fleeing on a bike. The suspect was identified as Edison Estremera-Cohen. Rochester Police Officers quickly located the defendant, who dropped his bike and fled from the officers. As a foot chase began, Edison Estremera-Cohen pulled out an illegally possessed gun and shot at one of the officers from a short distance, nearly striking him in the head.

Rochester Police Officers returned fire and quickly apprehended the defendant, who was charged with the murder of David Vazquez.

The case was prosecuted by First Assistant District Attorney Perry Duckles and Assistant District Attorney Michael Harrigan, Chief of the Major Felony Bureau.

“This was an extremely serious and violent case that resulted in the senseless loss of David Vazquez’s life,” said First Assistant District Attorney Perry Duckles. “The evidence presented at trial established that Edison Estremera-Cohen robbed and shot David before fleeing the scene. I am grateful to the Rochester Police Department for the thorough investigation that allowed us to present a strong and comprehensive case to the jury, and to the officers who faced an incredibly dangerous situation while apprehending the defendant. Most importantly, I hope today’s verdict provides a measure of justice and closure for David’s loved ones as they continue to grieve his loss.”

Today’s verdict holds Edison Estremera- Cohen accountable for David’s murder and for the violent crimes committed that morning. I also commend First Assistant District Attorney Perry Duckles and Assistant District Attorney Michael Harrigan for their work and dedication to this important case. Above all, my thoughts remain with David’s family and loved ones, who have had to endure an unimaginable loss.”

Edison Estremera-Cohen will be sentenced on November 13, 2026, in front of Monroe County
