Dewey Avenue Shooting Arrest

Rochester, NY - On July 14, 2026, at approximately 3:47 p.m., officers responded to the 1200 block of Dewey Avenue after receiving a report of a person who had been shot. Upon arrival, officers located a man in his 30s nearby suffering from at least one non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his lower body. The victim was transported by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The Rochester Police Department's Criminal Investigations Section Non-Fatal Shooting Unit identified 22-year-old Toney Henton as the suspected shooter. On July 18, Rochester Police officers located Henton as he was leaving a residence on Northview Terrace and safely took him into custody following a vehicle traffic stop. At the time of his arrest, Henton was found in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun, suspected cocaine, and drug paraphernalia.
Toney Henton, 22, has been charged with Assault in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree in connection with the July 14 shooting. He has also been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, and Criminal Possession of Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree in connection with the loaded firearm, suspected cocaine, and drug paraphernalia recovered at the time of his arrest.
