Deaf Awareness Week Features Red Wings Game, Zoo Visit, Rock Climbing & More
Deaf Awareness Week, the last full week of September, will start two days early in Rochester this year. "Deaf Culture Night with the Red Wings" will kick off the annual celebration on Friday, Sept. 20, game time 6:05 pm.
On Sunday, Sept. 22, Seneca Park Zoo will host "Deaf Day," in conjunction with the Rochester School for the Deaf and the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at RIT.
Deaf Women of Rochester will be holding a three-day retreat Sept. 27-29 at Camp Mark Seven in Old Forge, NY.
And rock climbing will be on tap when Central Roc Gym hosts "Deaf Day" on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Other events include RSD's Homecoming, a fundraiser for the Rochester Deaf Rotary, "Deaf Night Out" at Seed & Stone Cidery, and a happy hour for CODAs (children of deaf adults).

According to Awareness Days, "Deaf Awareness Week is an annual event aimed at raising awareness about the Deaf community, their culture, and the specific communication needs of Deaf and hard of hearing individuals.
It is a time to celebrate the contributions of the Deaf community and to promote the rights of Deaf people worldwide."
