Clay Avenue Investigation

Rochester, NY - 4/20/26, around 7:45am, Officers responded to a house on Clay Avenue for the report of shots fired. The preliminary investigation found that during a dispute amongst neighbors, the suspect fired at least one round from a handgun. Thankfully, no one was struck or injured. Clay Ave was shut down for several hours as Detectives sought a search warrant for the location, which was executed by the Special Operations Team. Although the suspect had fled, evidence of shots fired and a KelTec KSG410 were recovered.
Later in the day, the Tactical Unit located the suspect leaving a house in the 100 block of Ellsinore Street. He immediately ran from Officers and was taken into custody after a foot chase. The SWAT Team responded and executed a search warrant at the house on Ellsinore Street, which recovered additional evidence.
As a result of the investigation, 18-year old Zamaire Lewis was taken into custody and transported to the Monroe County Jail.
Zamaire Lewis, age 18, is charged with Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree.
