Rochester, NY- It’s National Voter Education Week, and the City of Rochester – through its R-Centers, the Rochester Community Sports Complex, and Rochester Animal Services – is partnering with the Monroe County Board of Elections to help residents become confident voters. Through Friday, Oct. 10, residents can visit pop-up voter registration tables to learn how to register to vote, find their polling sites and early voting locations, how to develop a plan to vote, and how to serve as an election inspector or Spanish translator.
“Democracy is a fundamental right we all must exercise,” said Mayor Malik D. Evans. “National Voter Education Week is an opportunity for residents to learn more about voting and also help others understand the process. Hosting voting registration tables at R-Centers and the Sports Complex is an excellent way to involve young people in the democratic process and empowers all Rochesterians to move our community, state, and nation forward.”
All R-Centers staff are encouraging teenagers aged 16 and older to pre-register to vote, which will automatically update their status to registered voters when they turn 18. Also, youths aged 17 and older can apply to become voting inspectors.
Board of Election staff will be available at select R-Centers to provide demonstrations on the new voting machines from 4 to 6 p.m. on the following dates and locations:
Tuesday, Oct. 7, David F. Gantt R-Center, 700 North St.
Wednesday, Oct. 8, Frederick Douglass R-Center, 999 South Ave.
Thursday, Oct. 9, Pamela and Trenton Jackson R-Center, 485 N. Clinton Ave.
Additionally, residents can visit standalone pop-up registration tables at RAS from 12 noon to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and the Rochester Community Sports Complex from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The voter registration deadline is Oct. 25.
