Cancer Services Program Provides Free Breast Cancer Screenings
Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women in the United States. Approximately 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. While the number of people diagnosed continues to rise, the importance of early detection remains.
The Cancer Services Program of the Finger Lakes Region (CSP-FLR) provides free breast cancer screenings, including clinical breast exams and mammograms for uninsured and underinsured individuals 40 years of age and older. The New York State Department of Health grant-funded program, housed at the Center for Community Health & Prevention, part of University of Rochester Medicine, serves residents of Monroe, Livingston, Ontario, Seneca, Yates, and Wayne Counties.
During Breast Cancer Awareness Month and beyond, CSP-FLR partners with local healthcare providers for free breast cancer screening days.

The CSP-FLR does not perform the screenings, but pays for clinical breast exams and mammograms, pelvic exams and Pap tests, and at-home colorectal cancer screening kits and/or colonoscopies at nearly 200 clinics across the Finger Lakes region. The program also pays for follow-up diagnostic exams if there is an abnormal finding during a screening. If cancer is found, the program will enroll eligible patients into the Medicaid Cancer Treatment Program for full coverage of treatment services.
